History

Saxon tower at Kentchurch Court

The tower at Kentchurch Court can be traced back to Saxon times.

 

The Great Hall and other buildings were constructed in the fourteenth century and altered by John Nash in 1795 as part of his "Great Design" for the estate.



People

Many historical characters have been associated with Kentchurch Court.

 

The Welsh hero Owain Glendower's daughter Alice, married Sir John Scudamore and it is thought that Glendower stayed at Kentchurch after his disastrous campaign against the English in 1416.

 

The English Royal Family have connections with Owain Glendower who was the last of the Welsh princes.
